LifeLine Shanghai's CollegeLink program links the international university students studying in Shanghai with the information and support provided by our organization.
Mission
The mission of this program is to support international international university students studying in Shanghai create a meaningful volunteer leadership opportunity for interested students, and forge a stronger link between the international study abroad programs and LifeLine Shanghai.
The key component of the CollegeLink program is the bi-weekly newsletter that is distributed to all students. Each issue of the newsletter addresses a specific health and well-being topic related to the students' time here in China. These newsletters also feature helpful hints and suggestions, useful information and contacts, job postings from companies looking for interns and non-profit organizations looking for volunteers, and interviews with students regarding the main topic of the month's issue.
The following is a sample list of topics to be covered:
- Culture Shock/Cultural Competence
- Conflict Resolution (specifically focused on roommate issues)
- Alcoholism/Drug Abuse
- STDs/Pregnancy/Birth Control
- Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Body Image Issues/Eating Disorders
- Isolation and Depression
- Reverse Culture Shock/Repatriation
CollegeLink Representatives are responsible for drafting content for the newsletter, with the assistance of LifeLine Shanghai administrative staff. CollegeLink Representatives also conduct interviews with students to hear their perspective on each newsletter's main topic.Interns work in both the LifeLine Shanghai Administrative Office in the Shanghai Centre and in the field doing research.
